my life

{event} celebrating phil’s birthday

March 18, 2017

Back in October, my friend asked if I wanted to go to a Sharks game since his company has a suite. Since it was the opening night at SAP Center and the Sharks were playing the Kings, you bet I said yes! (Plus, who turns out going to a game for free…?) I end up meeting one of my friend’s coworkers, Phil, and we totally hit it off because we were both Taiwanese and went to the same high school… just not at the same time. I started college when he started high school, hah. I’ve always been open to dating younger guys, and I have, but four years is a pretty big difference. When he turned 25 in January, I made sure to remind him I was only three years older than him now. I mean, the three year difference would only last about two months, but it’s still better than nothing! :p

For his birthday dinner with his family, we went to Orchard City Kitchen in Campbell. His family’s been here before and raved about the food so I had high expectations. With tons of small and medium sized dishes, this place is great for groups because you can try a large variety of things.

The Triple B consisted of bacon, butter, and biscuit.

They had really good beers, wine, and cocktails. Phil’s brother ordered a drink that came in a stormtrooper mug. I need that in my life!

We ordered so much food, it was hard to keep up. But like my family, eating with his family is like playing in the hunger games. If you don’t fend for yourself, you’ll go to bed hungry. 🙂

After dinner, we headed home to eat the ice cream cake I got him. I didn’t think it was that warm, but the cake definitely started melting on my way over to his place. 🙁 We ate some birthday cake, drank some shots, and ended up going to Paper Plane in downtown San Jose for the night.

The next night, we went up to San Francisco for dinner at House of Prime Rib! Since HoPR is one of the most popular restaurants in San Francisco, you have to make reservations way in advance if you want to dine at a “regular” dinner time. Although I wasn’t sure if we’d still be seeing each other in January (hey, anything can happen), I decided to just make reservations cause they’re free. I could always cancel my reservation, right?

Bomb dot com. HoPR never disappoints! Even as leftovers, the meat was so tender and the sides were so delicious. 🙂

A happy birthday to this young grasshopper. 🙂
