{travel} shieh sibs in LA: visiting the grandparents

June 17, 2017

One of my favorite things about visiting Los Angeles is seeing my grandparents. My siblings and I are closer to our maternal grandparents because they live in California (versus in Taiwan) so we’re able to see them more frequently. Our grandma also raised me and Steph when my mom used to work, so there’s a strong bond there. πŸ™‚ My grandma is everything I strive for – she’s outgoing with tons of friends, very caring and giving, is super clean, and cooks really bomb food. Also, she hosts a lot of fun mahjong parties. #goals

When we visit our grandparents, we usually do the same thing: KBBQ at Kariya Shabu Shabu and BBQ and shaved ice at Class 302.

Surprisingly, this shaved ice dish was larger and cheaper than the shaved snow. :O

At my grandparents’ house… we always play mahjong. Clay and Neil got to learn from my grandma, and now that they got a hang of it, they always want to play too! Having three other siblings is pretty awesome cause we fill a whole mahjong table… perfect.

Family! <3

After we left our grandparents’ place in Cerritos, we headed north… but not to go home yet! We wanted to hit up a few more places before we officially ended our Los Angeles trip. First stop: Salt & Straw. Although we have one in San Francisco now, we thought it was more convenient for all of us to try since we were in the Los Angeles area anyways. The ice cream is as bomb as it was in Portland. πŸ™‚

Steph and Neil went to pick up Half and Half, while Clay and I went to get in line for lunch at Mama Lu’s Dumpling House. Teamwork makes the dream work! This restaurant is also on the smaller side, so there’s always a line. The food was good and comforting, but the service is the worst! What did we expect? It’s a Chinese restaurant… If the service was good, the food probably wasn’t.

The meat of their xlbs were bomb, but the skin was definitely too thin.

And with that, we ended up our Shieh Sibs trip in Los Angeles. It’s always fun to travel with my siblings because we eat a lot, drink a lot, and just have a lot of fun together. Although hanging out with each other 24/7 may not be the ideal at certain times, it definitely gives us nice bonding time with each other as a group. Cheers to more adventures!
