{travel} christine and phillip in LA: disneyland

July 18, 2017

On Monday, July 3rd, we were off to Disneyland! The last time I went to Disneyland was junior year of college… so about 8 years ago! I don’t remember much of it besides waiting in hella lines. (That’s probably why I’m not a huge fan of Disneyland…) Phil just went last year, so he knew how to navigate both Disneyland and California Adventure.

Before heading to the amusement park, we had a quick breakfast downstairs at our hotel. The steak was definitely not as good as the steak we had for dinner the night before, lols!

Our hotel was just a short walk away from Disneyland, so in a blink of an eye, we were at California Adventure!

Phil and I being extra and changing our Apple watch faces to Mickey and Minnie. 😀 I also learned that if you press on the Mickey or Minnie, it will announce to you what time it is. Very cool~

The Mickey shaped pretzels were whatever – definitely not salted enough. Also, I downed a cold beer when we were taking a break, felt a slight buzz, and then right as I walked in the sun, I sobered up. The sun was on a mission that day…

Phil wanted me to pose like his mom but I was like I’m not that cute/hip…

Lunch time had passed, so we were all getting pretty hungry. We ended up standing in the sun for quite a bit because the line for turkey legs was so long! Once we sat down, Phil dug in! These bad boys are actually pretty big, and in my opinion, totally worth the $11!

The new Guardians of the Galaxy ride! The decor is really awesome, and the ride was on another level compared to Tower of Terror. It was pretty exhilarating, but I definitely felt nauseous after the ride. Motion sickness finally kicked in after numerous roller coasters, hah.

To cool down a bit, we headed over to a hotel bar for drinks. They serve Mickey mouse mojitos! So cute, and very refreshing!

The boys went to downtown Disney to pick up some gold bricks for dinner.

I liked that they had an interactive game for all the people waiting for the World of Color show to pass the time. The show itself was amazing… such a great production. 🙂 Totally worth being on my feet for another 30 minutes!

By the time the water show finished, I was exhausted. We had been at Disneyland for 13 hours, and I was ready to chop my feet off. I thought we would be heading back to our hotel, but Phil’s mom excitedly told us we should go back to Disneyland for the Indiana Jones ride. We had to fight through all the traffic and then stand in another one hour line, FML. Save me!

After the Indiana Jones ride (which wasn’t worth the long wait), we started heading for the exit. On the way, the parade just started. Phil’s mom got excited again, and we had to stay. How does the oldest person in our group have more energy than the rest of us!? After five minutes of the parade, Phil and I were like, “Screw it, let’s go find seats somewhere.” #oldpeoplestatus

I was so ready to knock out when we got back to the hotel, but we ended up eating In N Out and Bottega Louie macarons instead.

Will was flying back to Maryland pretty early on July 4th, so we all got up early so we could eat some Taiwanese breakfast at Four Sea Restaurant in Irvine.

After breakfast, Phil and I headed over to Cerritos to see my grandparents. We started off by playing some mahjong (which Phil won) and then eating lunch. My grandma’s first reaction when meeting Phil was, “Wha! So tall!” And then as we were leaving, my grandma loudly states, “Hope you guys get married soon!” LOL! Way to embarrass me…

I’ve said it before, but I think it’s so nice that Phillip is Taiwanese and has a similar upbringing to mine. It definitely makes it a lot easier knowing he can communicate so freely with my family members. 🙂

On the way back to the hotel, we stopped by Brodard for spring rolls and Tastea for boba. Then we took a fat nap before our flight. I think we were all exhausted!

The long weekend was filled with delicious food, fun amusement parks, and lots of quality time with my boyfriend and his family. It was definitely a much needed vacation before I start my new job! Also very grateful I got 3 days at home to finish up my final paper (15-20 pages, FML), catch up on my blog, watch some TV, and hang out with my family. Can’t wait for another Disneyland trip… hopefully it’d be sooner rather than later! 🙂
